Terms and conditions

1. The Star WIN WITH WORDS 2016 (“Contest”) is organised by Star Media Group Berhad (“Organiser”) and is open to those residing in Malaysia aged 18 years and above. The following group of persons shall not be eligible to participate in this Contest, i.e.: employees of the Organiser including its partners, affiliated and related companies and/or Contest service providers of the Organiser including its affiliated and related companies and their immediate family members.
2. The Contest will run for eight (8) consecutive weeks from 05/09/16 to 30/10/16 (“Contest Period”) and there will be four (4) series of Contest during the Contest Period (“Series”) as follows:
   1. Pantai Sentral Park Series: from Monday, 05/09 to Sunday, 18/09/16.
   2. Seremban 2 Series: from Monday, 19/09 to Sunday 02/10/16.
   3. The Light Series: from Monday, 03/10 to Sunday, 16/10/16.
   4. Bandar Rimbayu Series: from Monday, 17/10 to Sunday, 30/10/16.
   The closing date for submission for Pantai Sentral Park Series is at 12 noon on the second day (Tuesday) after the Series ends (“Submission Deadline”). The Submission Deadline for Seremban 2 Series, The Light Series and Bandar Rimbayu Series is at 12 noon on the fourth day (Thursday) after the Series ends.
3. Throughout the Contest Period, the Organiser will print five (5) letters on the front page of The Star newspaper (“Letters”) and one (1) special token numbering from 1 to 14 on other pages of The Star newspaper daily (“Special Tokens”). The Star newspaper will feature different Letters of consonants and/or vowels with different points each day throughout the Contest Period. One (1) super vowel with higher points will be printed among the Letters on random days (“Super Vowel”). Cut and collect the Letters, Special Tokens, Super Vowels and the entry form for each Series (“Entry Form”) to participate in the Contest during the Contest Period. All Letters, Special Tokens, Super Vowels and Entry Forms printed for each Series will have their individual colour and are valid for use throughout its respective Series only.
4. Only original Letters, Special Tokens, Super Vowels and Entry Forms printed in The Star newspaper will be accepted. No photocopies will be entertained. Defaced Letters/Special Tokens/Super Vowels/Entry Forms or Letters/Special Tokens/Super Vowels/Entry Forms printed from any digital replica format (including electronic edition of The Star newspaper) will not be accepted.
5. The prizes for the Contest are (“Prizes”):
   1. Series Prizes – 10 Winners X 4 Series (“Series Winners”).
   2. Star Anniversary Bonus Prize – 45 Winners X 4 Series (“Star Anniversary Bonus Prize Winners”).
   3. Grand Finale Prizes – 10 Winners (“Grand Prize Winners”).
6. Series Prizes – 10 Winners X 4 Series:

   The Series Winners are selected based on the HIGHEST points received in one (1) envelope for each Series. Below are the break-down of the Series Prizes for all four (4) Series:

   1. 1st Prize – RM10,000.00 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
   2. 2nd Prize – RM6,000.00 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
   3. 3rd Prize – RM3,000.00 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
   4. Consolation Prize– RM1,000.00 cash X 7 Winners X 4 Series.
7. To participate in each Series:
   1. Participants must collect and cut the original Entry Form, Letters and Super Vowels, if any, with the specific colour according to the Series name printed in The Star newspaper.
   2. The first Letter for the two (2) words will be provided by the Organiser. Participants must complete two (2) different English words by sticking the Letters and/or Super Vowels in the boxes provided in the Series’ Entry Form.
   3. As an option for additional points, participants may collect and cut the Special Tokens and stick them in order of the numbers, either 1 to 7 or 8 to 14 in the Series’ Entry Form. Additional points are listed below:
   • 100 points for completed Special Token Boxes.
   • 10 points for each Special Token if the Special Token Boxes is incomplete.
   4. Subscribers of The Star newspaper (“Subscribers”) will automatically receive 100 Bonus Points in every Series by stating their email addresses as per The Star ePaper account.
   5. Participants may opt to fill in their one-time personal particulars as required in the Entry Forms through online registration which is available at www.thestar.com.my/winwithwords/. Upon successful registration, each participant will be given a Registration ID which must be written on each of his/her Entry Form submitted to the Organiser.
   6. Participants are not allowed to make up words beginning with Letters other than the ones already printed on the said Entry Form. Participants are not allowed to stick any other Letters on the first box of the Letter provided.
   7. Participants may decide the length of their words subject to a maximum of ten (10) Letters per word. Word with more than ten (10) Letters will be automatically disqualified even if the word is correct.
   8. Only words that can be found in the United Kingdom Oxford English Dictionary will be accepted.
   9. Calculate/sum up the total points for all two (2) words as well as the Special Tokens’ points, if any, in the box provided on each Entry Form
   10. Cut the Entry Form along the perforated line, and it is optional for the participant whether to stick his/her Entry Form on a separate piece of paper or cardboard.
   11. Accumulate as many completed Entry Forms as possible to increase points.
   12. Count the total number of accumulated Entry Forms and calculate the total accumulated points and write down the grand total on a separate piece of paper.
   13. Send in one (1) envelope to the address provided before the Submission Deadline of each Series via any method that will ensure delivery. Proof of postage shall not constitute as proof of receipt by the Organiser.
   14. The top ten (10) participants with the HIGHEST accumulated grand total points submitted in one (1) submission/envelope wins the Series Prizes.
   15. In the event of a tie breaker, the submission/envelope with the highest grand total points and the least number of Entry Forms received wins.
   16. The 1 st Prize Series Winners from all four (4) Series will be automatically selected as the Finalists (as hereinafter defined) to participate in the “WIN WITH WORDS 2016 Grand Finale Challenge” (“Challenge”).
8. At the end of each Series, the top ten (10) participants with the HIGHEST accumulated grand total points will be contacted via telephone, based on the telephone numbers provided in their Entry Forms. In the event any of the participants is un-contactable after three (3) attempts, then he/she will be disqualified and the following participant will be selected as the substitute Series Winner. The Organiser shall not be held liable in the event the selected participant cannot be contacted for whatever reasons. Series Winners may be required to attend a prize giving ceremony or send a representative to accept/collect their Prizes.
9. The Star Anniversary Bonus Prizes – 45 Winners X 4 Series:
   Each qualified Entry Form received for each Series will be given one (1) serial number (“Serial Number”) according to the date of receipt. Star Anniversary Bonus Prize Winners will be selected based on the formula provided in the paragraph 10 below and each Star Anniversary Bonus Prize Winner will receive RM500.00 cash.
10. The total qualified Serial Numbers allocated for each Series during the Contest Period will be divided by forty five (45) to derive the selected serial numbers to determine the Star Anniversary Bonus Winners (“Selected Numbers”). For the avoidance of doubt, the Selected Numbers will be round down to the number resulting from the division.
    For example: If the total qualified Serial Numbers for Series 1 is “2252”, then the total “2252” will be divided by 45 to derive the Selected Number “50” who shall then be the first Star Anniversary Bonus Winner, and the Selected Number “100” who shall then be the second Star Anniversary Bonus Winner, and the Selected Number “150” who shall then be the third Star Anniversary Bonus Winner, and the Selected Number “200” who shall then be the fourth Star Anniversary Bonus Winner and so forth.
11. Each participant can win one (1) Prize for each Series ONLY. In the event a participant wins more than one (1) Prize of different value, i.e.: one (1) Series Prize and one (1) Anniversary Bonus Prize, then the Participant wins the higher valued Prize ONLY. The lower valued Prize will be won by the next substitute Winner. All Series Prize and Anniversary Bonus Prize Winners will be contacted via telephone, based on the number provided in the Entry Forms and will be given details of Prizes redemption.
12. Grand Finale Prizes – 10 Winners:
    A total of ten (10) unique participants which consists the 1st Prize Winners of the four (4) Series and six (6) selected participants from across all qualified Entry Forms received will be selected as finalists (“Finalists”) to participate in the Challenge. In the event there are repeat Series Prize – 1st Prize Winners, then the corresponding Series Prize – 2nd Prize Winner will be selected as a substitute Finalist. The Challenge will be held at 1 Utama Shopping Centre on 29/11/16 at 3 pm. The Organiser reserves the right to change the venue/date/time with prior notice. All selected Finalists must participate in a series of challenges set by the Organisers during the Challenge to determine the Grand Finale Prize that he/she may win. The mechanics of the series of challenges will only be disclosed to the Finalists during the Challenge. Below are the break-down of the Grand Finale Prizes:
    1. Grand Prize – KIA Sportage K GT Line X 1 Winner.
    2. 2nd Prize – KIA Cerato X 1 Winner
    3. 3rd Prize – RM7,000.00 cash X 1 Winner.
    4. 4th Prize – RM3,000.00 cash X 1 Winner.
    5. Consolation Prize – RM1,000.00 cash each x 6 Winners.
13. All qualified Entry Forms received throughout the Contest Period will be given one (1) Serial Number each according to the date of receipt and the additional six (6) Finalists selection will be based on the formula provided in the paragraph 14 below.
14. The total qualified Serial Numbers allocated for the Contest Period will be divided by six (6) to derive the selected Serial Numbers to determine the Finalists to participate in the Challenge. For the avoidance of doubt, the Selected Numbers will be rounded down to the number resulting from the division.
    For example: If the total qualified Serial Number is “15,002”, then the total “15,002” will be divided by 6 to derive the Selected Number “2,500” who shall then be the first Finalist, and the Selected Number “5,000” who shall then be the second Finalist, and the Selected Number “7,500” who shall then be the third Finalist, and the Selected Number “10,000” who shall then be the fourth Finalist and so forth. All Finalists MUST participate in the Challenge to be eligible to win a Grand Finale Prize
15. Only the 1st Prize Winners of the four (4) Series and six (6) selected Finalists’ whose names and details are written on the Entry Form correctly may participate in the Challenge. Eligibility of participation is strictly non-transferable. Finalists will be contacted via telephone, based on the number provided in the Entry Form and will be given details for the participation in the Challenge. In the event a Finalist is not contactable after three (3) attempts, declines or is unable to participate in the Challenge for any reason whatsoever, then he/she will be disqualified and the following Serial Number will be selected as the substitute Finalist.
16. In any event, upon confirmation of participation the Finalist fails to participate on the day of Challenge, he/she will be forfeited from the Grand Finale Prize automatically. Each participant can win one (1) Grand Finale Prize only
17. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Challenge at any time as it deems fit and necessary by giving prior notice to the participants.
18. Upon verification and confirmation from the Series and Star Anniversary Bonus Winners, arrangements will be made for Series and Star Anniversary Bonus Winners to collect their Prizes. All Prizes must be claimed within three (3) months from the date of notification. All unclaimed Prizes will be forfeited and the Organiser will not be held responsible for non-receipt or delayed delivery of the postal notification to the Winner(s).
19. The Prizes are subject to availability. The Organiser reserves the absolute discretion to substitute any of the Prizes with that of similar value, at any time it deems fit and necessary with prior notice. All Prizes are given on an “As Is Where Is” basis and are not exchangeable for cash, credit, other prizes or voucher, in part or in full.
20. Participants shall assume full liability and responsibility in case of any liability, mishap, injury, loss, damage, claim or accident (including death) resulting from their participation in the Contest, redemption and/or usage of the Prizes. The Organiser shall not be responsible for any liability, mishap, loss, damage, claim or accident (including death) in any manner whatsoever.
21. All costs, fees, and/or related expenses incurred or to be incurred by the participants in relation to the Contest and/or Challenge, and to claim the Prizes won, which shall include but not limited to the costs for transportation, SMS, postage/courier, personal costs and/or any other costs, are the sole responsibility of the Winners and/or the participants, as the case maybe, and the Winners must abide by all laws and regulations currently in place and the terms and conditions of the party(ies) arranging and/or providing for the Prizes and the terms and conditions attached to the Prizes, if any.
22. In view of the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Act, by participating in the Contest, the participants hereby expressly grant the Organiser and/or its affiliates and/or subsidiaries the permission to use and process their personal data including (but not limited to) names, contact information and/or photographs for future advertising and publicity purposes in any media in connection with this Contest.
23. The participants may from time to time contact fulfilment@omniteam.com.my to: (i) obtain a copy of their personal data held by the Organiser; (ii) update their personal data; or (iii) withdraw their consent to the use/process of their personal data by the Organiser and/or its affiliates and/or subsidiaries. The Organiser and/or its affiliates and/or subsidiaries shall take reasonable precautions to keep the participant’s personal data secure.
24. The Organiser reserves the absolute right to review and vary any of the terms and conditions contained herein at any time and the Participants are highly advised to visit the website: thestar.com.my/winwithwords from time to time to ensure that the Participants are aware of any updates and changes made.
25. The Organiser’s decisions are final and there shall be no appeal entertained and/or allowed. All participants shall not resort to court proceedings to review the Organiser’s decisions.
26. By participating in the Contest, the participants agree at all times to be bound by these Contest Rules and Regulations.
