Q1: Who can participate?

The Star WIN WITH WORDS 2016 is open to those residing in Malaysia aged 18 years and above. The following group of persons shall not be eligible to participate in this promotion; employees of the Organiser including its affiliated and related companies, distributors, representatives, vendors, sponsors and/or agents of advertising and/or promotion service providers of the Organiser including its affiliated and related companies and their immediate family members.

Q2: How does the Contest work?

From 05/09/16 to 30/10/16, 5 letters will be printed in The Star newspaper daily. Each letter will have specific points. Each day will feature different letters of consonants and/or vowels. Readers are to cut and collect the letters printed daily to form English words. Words are to be submitted on original entry forms published in The Star. There are 4 Series to participate in throughout the Contest Period. Each Series will have their individual Series entry form with the first letter of the word provided. Only the respective Series letters and entry forms are valid for each Series. Everyone stands a chance to win in this word challenge. Win by having the highest points or just by participating. The highest scorer of each Series and 6 participants across all entries will be given a chance to participate in the Grand Finale challenge to win the Grand Finale Prizes.

Q3: What are the dates of each Series and the closing dates for submission?

The Contest will run for 8 consecutive weeks from 05/09/16 to 30/10/16.

The 4 Series and closing dates are as per below:

1. Pantai Sentral Park Series: from Monday, 05/09 to Sunday, 18/09/16. (Submission deadline is 12pm noon of 20/09/16)
2. Seremban 2 Series: from Monday, 19/09 to Sunday 02/10/16. (Submission deadline is 12pm noon of 06/10/16)
3. The Light Series: from Monday, 03/10 to Sunday, 16/10/16. (Submission deadline is 12pm noon of 20/10/16)
4. Bandar Rimbayu Series: from Monday, 17/10 to Sunday, 30/10/16. (Submission deadline is 12pm noon of 03/11/16)

The submission deadline for Pantai Sentral Park Series is at 12 noon on the second day (Tuesday) after the Series ends. The submission deadlines for Seremban 2 Series, The Light Series and Bandar Rimbayu Series have been postponed to 12 noon on the fourth day (Thursday) after the Series ends.

Q4. How do I participate in this Contest?

1. All Letters, Special Tokens, Super Vowels and Entry Forms printed for each Series will have their individual colour and are valid for use throughout its respective Series only.
2. Only original letters and original entry forms printed in The Star newspaper will be accepted. Photocopies of any kind including entry forms will be disqualified.
3. Complete 2 different English words by sticking the letters in the boxes provided in respective Series' entry form. The first letter for the letters will be provided by the Organiser.
1. Do not stick over the first letter provided in each Series’ entry form. You are not allowed to make up words beginning with letters other than the ones already printed on the entry form. For example, for Series 1, all words must begin with the letter ‘S’.
2. You may form a maximum 10 letter word (including the letter provided). Words with more than 10 letters will be automatically disqualified even if the word is correct.
3. Only words that can be found in the United Kingdom Oxford English Dictionary will be accepted.
4. Calculate/sum up the total points for all 2 words as well as the Special Tokens points, if there are any in the box provided on each entry form.
5. Cut the entry form along the perforated line. You are recommended to stick the entry form on a separate piece of paper or cardboard.
6. Accumulate as many completed entry forms as possible to increase your grand total points.
7. Before submitting your entries, count the total number of accumulated entry forms you are submitting and calculate the grand total points accumulated and write on a piece of paper. Attach the paper to your submission. The higher the accumulated grand total points, the higher your chances of winning the Series Prizes.
8. Send your submissions in 1 envelope to the address provided before the deadline of each Series via any method that will ensure delivery. Proof of postage shall not constitute proof of receipt by the Organiser.

Q5 : What are “Super Vowels”?

Super Vowels are special letters with higher points that will be printed on random days on the front page of The Star newspaper along with 4 other regular Letters. Participants are encouraged to collect and use these Super Vowels to form their words in the entry form to obtain additional points.

Q6 : What are “Special Tokens”?

Special Tokens are tokens numbering from 1 to 14 printed daily within The Star newspaper. As an option for additional points, participants may cut the Special Tokens and stick them in their entry forms. Participants may stick the tokens in complete order of the numbers either 1 to 7 or 8 to 14 OR stick any available tokens according to the numbers on the Special Token boxes. This is optional. Participants do not have to complete the Special Token boxes to participate in this contest.

Additional points that participants will obtain for each entry form are as per listed below:

• 100 points for each completed Special Token Boxes OR
• 10 points for each Special Token if the Special Token Boxes is incomplete.

Q7: How do I skip having to fill in the Personal Particulars in each entry form?

Participants may skip filling in their Personal Particulars for each Entry Form submitted by registering at www.thestar.com.my/winwithwords/. Upon registration, the Participant will be given a Registration ID which must be written on each and every entry form submitted.

Q8: How do I get the 100 Bonus Points for The Star subscribers?

All The Star subscribers will automatically receive 100 Bonus Points in every Series by stating their email address as per The Star ePaper account. At the end of the Series period the Organiser will check against the database and automatically add a ‘once’100 Bonus Points to the subscribers’ entry forms submission.

Q9 : Can I submit more than 1 submission/envelope?

Yes. You may submit as many submissions/envelopes as you wish. All qualified entry forms received in each submission/envelope will be assigned a serial number. However points will not be accumulated by the Organiser. Participants are responsible for accumulating their points for each submission/envelope and each submission/envelope is regarded as a separate entry.

Q10: Can I submit letters collected in the first Series in the other Series?

NO. All Letters, Special Tokens, Super Vowels and Entry Forms printed for each Series will have their individual colour and are valid for use throughout its respective Series only.

Q11: What are the Contest prizes?

The Contest prizes are divided in 3 categories as per below:

1. Series Prizes – 10 winners X 4 series:
1. 1st Prize of RM10,000 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
2. 2nd Prize of RM6,000 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
3. 3rd Prize of RM3,000 cash X 1 Winner X 4 Series.
4. Consolation Prize of RM1,000 cash X 7 Winners X 4 Series.
2. Star Anniversary Bonus Prize of RM500 – 45 winners X 4 series.
3. Grand Finale Prizes:
1. Grand Prize of a KIA Sportage GT Line X 1 Winner.
2. 2nd Prize of a KIA Cerato X 1 Winner.
3. 3rd Prize of RM7,000 cash X 1 Winner.
4. 4th Prize of RM3,000 cash X 1 Winner.
5. Consolation Prizes of RM1,000 Cash X 6 Winners.

Q12: How do I win the Series Prizes?

1. 10 participants with the HIGHEST total accumulated points submitted in 1 envelope/submission wins the Series Prizes.
2. In the event of a tie breaker, the envelope with the highest grand total points and the least number of entry forms received, wins.
3. All 1st Prize Winners from Series 1 to Series 4 will also be automatically selected as the Finalists to participate in the Grand Finale Challenge.

Q13: How would I know if I am a Series Prize winner?

At the end of each Series, all Series Prize Winners will be contacted via telephone, based on the telephone numbers provided in the entry form and will be given details of the prizes won. All Series Prize winners may be required to attend a prize giving ceremony to accept their prizes. In the event any of the winners is un-contactable after 3 [three] attempts, then he/she will be disqualified and the following winner will be selected as the substitute winner. The Organiser shall not be held liable in the event the winners cannot be contacted for whatever reasons.

Q14: How many Series Prizes can I win?

Each participant can only win 1 prize for each Series.
In the event a participant wins more than 1 prize of different value, i.e.: 1 Series Prize and 1 The Star Anniversary Bonus Prize, then the participant will only win the higher valued prize. The lower valued prize will be won by the next substitute winner. All Series Prize and The Star Anniversary Bonus Prize winners will be contacted via telephone, based on the number provided in the entry form and will be given details of Prize redemption.

Q15: What is the Star Anniversary Bonus Prize?

There are 45 Star Anniversary Bonus Prizes to be given away for each series. Each Star Anniversary Bonus Prize winner will receive RM500 cash. All participants are eligible to win the Star Anniversary Bonus Prizes.

Q16: How do I win Star Anniversary Bonus Prize?

Each qualified entry form received in each series will be assigned a serial number according to the date of receipt. The Star Anniversary Bonus Prize winners’ selection will be based on the formula provided in the paragraph below: The total qualified Serial Numbers allocated for each Series during the Contest period will be divided by 45 to derive the selected serial numbers to determine the potential winners of the Star Anniversary Bonus Prize (“Selected Numbers”). For the avoidance of doubt, the Selected Numbers will be round down to the number resulting from the division.
For example: If the total qualified Serial Numbers for Series 1 is “2252”, then the total “2252” will be divided by 45 to derive the Selected Number “50” who shall then be the potential Winner of the first Star Anniversary Bonus Prize, and the Selected Number “100” who shall then be the potential Winner of the second Star Anniversary Bonus Prize, and the Selected Number “150” who shall then be the potential Winner of the third Star Anniversary Bonus Prize, and the Selected Number “200” who shall then be the potential Winner of the fourth Star Anniversary Bonus Prize and so forth.

Q17: How would I know if I am the Star Anniversary Bonus Prize winner?

The participant with the selected Serial Number will be contacted via SMS within 1 week from the date of when the respective Series ends, based on the telephone number/s provided in the entry form. In the event that any of the selected winners does not respond to the SMS notification within 24 hours, then he/she will be disqualified and the following next Serial Number of the corresponding selected Serial Number will be selected as the substitute winner.

Q18: What is the Grand Finale Challenge?

1. The Star WIN WITH WORDS 2016 Grand Finale Challenge will be held at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya on 29/11/16 at 3 pm. The Organiser reserves the right to change the venue/date/time with prior notice.
2. All selected Finalists must participate in a series of challenges set by the Organisers during the Challenge to determine the worth of Prize they will win.
3. The mechanics of the series of challenges will only be disclosed to the Finalists during the Grand Finale Challenge event.
4. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Grand Finale Challenge event at any time it deems fit and necessary by giving prior notice.

Q19: How do I win the Grand Finale Prizes?

A total of 10 unique participants which consists of 4 Series Prizes (1st Prize Winners of the 4 Series) and 6 selected participants from across all qualified entry forms received will be selected as finalists to participate in Grand Finale Challenge. In the event there are repeat Series Prize – 1 st Prize Winners, then the corresponding Series Prize – 2 nd Prize Winner will be selected as a substitute finalist.

Q20: How do you select the 6 selected participants from across all entries received as Finalists to participate in Grand Finale Challenge?

The total qualified Serial Numbers allocated for the Contest Period will be divided by 6 to derive the selected serial numbers to determine the selected Finalists to participate in the Challenge. For the avoidance of doubt, the Selected Numbers will be round down to the number resulting from the division.
For example: If the total qualified Serial Number is “15,002”, then the total “15,002” will be divided by 6 to derive the Selected Number “2,500” who shall then be the first Finalist, and the Selected Number “5,000” who shall then be the second Finalist, and the Selected Number “7,500” who shall then be the third Finalist, and the Selected Number “10,000” who shall then be the fourth Finalist and so forth. All Finalists MUST participate in the Challenge to become the actual Winner.

Q21: How do I know if I am a selected Finalist?

Finalists will be contacted via telephone, based on the number/s provided in the entry form and will be given details for the participation in the Challenge. The selected Finalist cannot be substituted with another person to participate. Eligibility of participation is strictly non-transferable. In the event any of the Finalists are not contactable after 3 attempts, decline or unable to participate in the Challenge for any reason whatsoever, then he/she will be disqualified and the following next Serial Number will be selected as the substitute Finalist.

Q22: How many Grand Finale Prizes can I win?

Each Grand Finalist can only win 1 Grand Finale Prize.

Q23: Will there be a winners' announcement ad?

Yes. The winners’ announcement ad of each series will be featured in The Star and on the website within 3-4 weeks after the end of each series.

Q24: How do I claim my prize?

Prizes must be collected from the Organiser. All costs, fees, and/or related expenses incurred in the process of claiming the prizes will be completely borne by the winners.
